Alyssa Wasko is the founder and designer of DONNI.

What was the Lightbulb Moment that inspired you to fully dive into what you do?

After having DONNI as a passion project or “side hustle” for years, I finally convinced myself to quit my day job and fully dove into my career when I started spotting people on the street (that I didn’t know!) wearing our goods. That was the real moment. I knew that if it wasn’t just my family and friends supporting me and wearing our pieces there might really be more there.

What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve learned in your current career?

That keeping our kitchen stocked with snacks makes for a happy happy team.

What often sparks your creativity or gets you into the creative zone?

Usually a walk with my pup sans phone. If that doesn’t do the trick, usually an episode of Friends (seasons 2 and 3 especially get the juices flowing). But, it’s not a switch. Sometimes it happens in the middle of the night and you just have to ride the wave.

What is your unfiltered advice for anyone looking to break into your industry?

Have a point of view and the strength to stay true to that perspective. There is a lot of product in this industry and if you aren’t doing it better or differently — just don’t.
