How Lindsay Luv Transitioned From Corporate to Creative
“Being surrounded by other inspiring creatives gets my own creative juices flowing.”
Lindsay Luv is a DJ, music supervisor, and digital media strategist.
What was the Lightbulb Moment that inspired you to fully dive into what you do?
I started out working both corporate in the music industry as a Business Development Manager and on the management team for The Raveonettes. From there I worked in music marketing booking up-and-coming artists for high profile branded events across New York City and major US music festivals like SXSW and Coachella. Some of the artists I was booking included Chromeo, Justice, Future Island, and the late DJ AM. DJ AM became a client, friend, and eventually a mentor as he suggested I try my hand at DJing.
With such a breadth of music knowledge and a love of NYC nightlife, I gave it a whirl and what started off as a passion soon turned into a full-time career. 12+ years later and I have been a full-time DJ from NYC to now LA and it has taken me all over the world touring plus working with tons of my favorite fashion and lifestyle brands, celebrities, and much more.
Recently I have branched out into consulting on digital media strategy for celebrity clients via a role with Marque PR as well as coaching up-and-coming talent via Casting Workbook. Additionally, I have channelled my offline presence online as an influencer and music supervisor, participating in social media campaigns for top fashion and beauty brands and curating playlists for top brands on Spotify.
What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve learned in your current career?
That it's important to always stay one step ahead of the curve as the landscape is always changing. And to always propose ideas and lay out what you want because if you never ask, you never know if it might be possible!
What often sparks your creativity or gets you into the creative zone?
Being surrounded by other inspiring creatives gets my own creative juices flowing. I love being in a network like CCC because it connects so many great minds and keeps me on my toes to grow my own presence and live up to my own expectations.
What is your unfiltered advice for anyone looking to break into your industry?
Mistakes are only mistakes if you don't learn from them. Always be your own biggest cheerleader (in a humble but confident manner). Don't be afraid to present an idea because you will never know the response unless you lay it on the table. Timeliness, manners, and professionalism are always remembered and rewarded. Try not to perseverate on each moment but think of how those moments each add to the bigger picture. Don't be greedy but know your worth.
